The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's official gateway community is Gatlinburg, a charming mountain village nestled in a small valley beside the fast-flowing Little Pigeon River. Gatlinburg is home to the world-renowned Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community, North America's most prolific art colony. The streets are lined with charming shops, galleries and world-class dining options.
Gatlinburg attractions include Ripley's Believe It or Not! and Guinness World Records museums, the Gatlinburg Aquarium, Sweet Fanny Adams vaudeville theatre and the world's longest aerial tram to a complete wintertime ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg. For the more adventuresome, Gatlinburg also features several outdoor expedition companies, white water rafting establishments & fishing experts. They don't call this city "the heart of the Smokies" for nothing.
